Wheaton College Freshman Joel Pierce Named NCBWA Division III Rookie of the Week

Wheaton College freshman baseball player Joel Pierce of Centennial, Colorado, was named Division III Rookie of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCWBA).

Pierce earned the national award for helping lead Wheaton to a 2-1 edge in the season series against conference rival Illinois Wesleyan. He registered a .750 (6-for-8) batting average in the three games against the Titans. The freshman posted a 1.250 slugging percentage, as three of his six hits during the week were extra-base hits.Pierce drove in five runs and he scored one run, with a stolen base. He also drew three walks and hit a sacrifice fly in the series against the Titans.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
