Wheaton College (Ill.) Baseball Player Joel Pierce Named CCIW Hitter of the Week

Wheaton College freshman baseball player Joel Pierce of Centennial, Colorado, was named Hitter of the Week by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).

Pierce's effort helped the Wheaton Thunder win the season series against conference rival Illinois Wesleyan this weekend. He registered a .750 (6-for-8) batting average in three games for the Thunder last week. The freshman posted a 1.250 slugging percentage, as three of his six hits during the week were extra-base hits.Pierce drove in five runs and he scored one run, with a stolen base. He also drew three walks and hit a sacrifice fly in the series against the Titans.

Pierce is second on the Thunder with a .345 (20-for-58) batting average this season and he leads the Thunder with a .480 on-base percentage. The freshman has scored 12 runs with 11 RBI and four stolen bases in 22 games. Pierce has four doubles and a triple, posting a .448 slugging percentage this year.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
