2016 Jun 6

Kendall Kehres, a sophomore on the Wheaton College softball team, recently helped the Thunder win the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship. Kehres, of Doylestown, Ohio, is a graduate of Chippewa High School.

This year's victory was Wheaton's first-ever Tournament championship. Wheaton opened the tournament with a 2-0 win against top-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University, followed by two decisive wins against North Central College. The CCIW Tournament title earned Wheaton an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, where they reached the Regional round. The Thunder also established a single-reason record for wins this year with 32 total victories.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
