Wheaton College (Ill.) Student Aston Francis Named Player of the Week

Wheaton College student Aston Francis of Tyler, Texas, was named Player of the Week in men's basketball by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) for the second time this season.

Francis scored a career-high 45 points in a 98-95 two-overtime win at Elmhurst. Francis' scoring average of 27.9 points per game this year leads the CCIW and is fourth among all Division III players in points per game. He is ranked eighth in Division III, and the CCIW leader, in total field goals made with 75 this year. He also leads the conference in three-point field goals per game with an average of 4.25 three-pointers per game and is 11th in the nation in that category. His 4.88 assists per game is second in the CCIW and he is third in the conference with an average of 1.63 steals per game.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
