Wheaton College (Ill.) Student-Athlete Justin Ancona Competes in NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships

Wheaton College junior Justin Ancona participated in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Individual Championships. Wheaton's first qualifier for the tournament since 2013, Ancona lost a hard-fought 7-6, 6-0 decision against Bowdoin College's Luke Tercek.

Ancona ends the season with a sterling 18-5 overall record in singles action. In his three seasons with the Thunder, Ancona has compiled a 56-14 record in singles competition, winning 80 percent of his matches. A three-time All-Conference selection, Ancona was recently recognized as the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Year.

The NCAA Individual Championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams that are selected based on win-loss record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of the athletes.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
