Wheaton College (Ill.) Student Chris Dingfield Named Swimmer of the Year

Wheaton College junior Chris Dingfield of Jacksonville, Florida, was honored as the 2017 Male Swimmer of the Year by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). This annual award recognizes the top male and female swimmer in the conference for their performances throughout the entire season, culminating with the NCAA Championships.

Dingfield qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard breaststroke, reaching the consolation finals and placing 13th in the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.55. At the 2017 CCIW Championships, Dingfield established a new meet record by winning the 200-yard butterfly in 1:49.70. Dingfield earned his selection to the Division III Championships in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:48.84, a mark that is a Wheaton varsity record and ranks second in CCIW history. He also earned a CCIW Championship as part of Wheaton's 800-yard freestyle relay. Dingfield earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly and also earned All-CCIW distinction as part of Wheaton's 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
