Wheaton College (Ill.) Student Laura Becker Recognized for Outstanding Urban Studies Paper

Wheaton College (Ill.) student Laura Becker of Highlands Ranch, Colo. was recently awarded the Samuel A. Shellhamer Award in Urban Studies. The award was announced at Wheaton College's Honors Convocation.

The Samuel A. Shellhamer Award is given to a graduating student who has written the best paper in the Urban Studies program. It is named in honor of retired Vice President of Student Development Samuel Shellhamer, who served at Wheaton College for 30 years.

The Urban Studies program at Wheaton College helps students develop a sophisticated grasp of cities and their role in global affairs. Courses focus on the emergence and growth of cities, the complexities of the urban condition, and the increasing articulation of dynamic urban centers to global political, economic, social and cultural activities.
