Wheaton College (Ill.) Women's Basketball Team Wins CCW Championships

Katherine McDaniels, a junior on the Wheaton College women's basketball team, recently helped the Thunder win the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament championship. McDaniels, of Shoreview, Minnesota, is a graduate of Mounds View High School.

The Thunder defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 92-70 to earn their second consecutive Women's Basketball Tournament victory. This season's tournament title is the Thunder's fifth win in the 14-year history of the event. The Thunder also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, where they reached the first round of play. The team ended the season with a 22-6 overall record.

Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time.
