Hasten Biddlecome and Peter Whallon pick up CCIW Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors
Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton men's soccer players Hasten Biddlecome and Peter Whallon have each been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Soccer Players of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Biddlecome earns the league's award for defense and Whallon is recognized for the award on offense. The duo helped lead Wheaton to a 2-0 record last week with wins against Wittenberg University and St. Norbert College at the Bob Baptista Invitational. Tuesday's announcement marks the second time Biddlecome has earned the award. His previous selection came in his freshman season when he was named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week on October 16, 2017. Biddlecome was spectacular last Saturday night in a 4-1 win against No. 25 ranked St. Norbert College as he registered nine saves with several highlight-reel stops. The visiting Green Knights out-shot the Thunder 21-9 in the match as Biddlecome faced constant pressure in the match. The Thunder netminder tallied one save in the 5-0 shutout of Wittenberg University on Friday in the season opener. Whallon registered a goal and two assists for the Thunder last weekend. He scored the game-winning goal winning goal in the 18th minute on Saturday night in Wheaton's impressive 4-1 victory against No. 25 ranked St. Norbert College. Whallon also tallied an assist on the opening goal of the match against the Green Knights. The senior also distributed an assist on Wheaton's first goal of the season in Friday's victory against Wittenberg University.

Sarah Tomich is named the CCIW Women's Soccer Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Thunder junior Sarah Tomich has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Tomich, a five-time recepient of the award, helped lead Wheaton to victories against Puget Sound and RIT last weekend at the Bob Baptista Inivtational. Tomich, the reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Year, won the Defensive Player of the Week award three times last season. In the season-opening 3-0 victory against Puget Sound last Friday, Tomich keyed a Wheaton defense that held the Loggers to just three shot attempts in the entire match. On Saturday Wheaton again stifled its opponent as Tomich was key in holding RIT to just six shot attempts in a 3-1 victory against the Tigers.

Thunder punter John Bickle is named the CCIW's Special Teams Player of the Week
Wheaton, Ill. - Junior punter John Bickle was named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Special Teams Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday morning. Today's selection marks Bickle's first career recognition as a CCIW Player of the Week. Bickle aided Wheaton's field position advantage all day in Wheaton's 38-0 victory at Monmouth last Saturday. Bickle registered 353 yards on eight punts, averaging 44.1 yards per punt. Five of his eight punts landed inside the Fighting Scots' 20-yard line, including four punts inside the 10-yard line and two punts inside the five-yard line.

Dallas McRae earns selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week
Wheaton senior defensive lineman Dallas McRae earned selection to this week's D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 38-0 victory at Monmouth. McRae shined for a Wheaton defensive line that was outstanding in last Saturday's victory as the Thunder defense held the Fighting Scots to just 56 yards of total offense on an average of just one yard per play. McRae's nine total total tackles was the most of anyone on the Wheaton defense and his five solo tackles was also a team-high. He tallied two tackles for lost yardage (-9 yards) for a Thunder defense that totaled 10 tackles for lost yardage in the game.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Aryn Embretson earns All-Midwest region honors in track and field
Senior Aryn Embretson picked up All-Region recognition in the 10,000-meters and the 5,000-meters. Embretson's school and CCIW record time of 35:44.34 in the 10,000-meter run at the CCIW Championships on May 3 is second in the Midwest Region this year. Her effort of 17:37.45 in the 5,000-meter run on May 4 at the CCIW Championships is fifth in the Midwest Region to earn her a second All-Region accolade in the 2019 Outdoor season. Wheaton College (Ill.) Hannah Roeske named to 2018-2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team
Hannah Roeske of the Wheaton women's cross country and track teams has been named to the 2019 Women's Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA. Roeske earned First Team Academic All-District recognition as a sophomore Applied Health Science major at Wheaton with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average. Roeske earned her second career All-American recognition in cross country in 2018 as she finished 15th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. The 2018 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Roeske the 2018 Midwest Region Runner of the Year after her first-place finish at the 2018 Division III Midwest Cross Country Regional. In March, she was a Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American in the one-mile run, earning her sixth career All-American accolade across cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. Favor Ezewuzie of the Thunder women's track and field team has been named to the 2019 Women's Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA. Ezewuzie earned First Team Academic All-District recognition as a junior Elementary Education major at Wheaton with a 3.60 cumulative grade point average. Ezewuzie earned All-American recognition in 2019 with two of the honors at the Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships and four All-American recognitions last weekend at the D3 Outdoor Championships. She was named the 2019 USTFCCCA Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year both in the indoor and outdoor seasons. Ezewuzie also earned recognition as the CCIW Track Athlete of the Meet at both the CCIW Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2019. Wheaton College (Ill.) Leif Van Grinsven named to 2018-2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Men's Track & Field/Cross Country team
Leif Van Grinsven of the Wheaton men's track and field team, has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA. Van Grinsven, a senior, earned First Team Academic All-District recognition for the third-consecutive year. A two-time Google Cloud Academic All-American, he is a an Interdisciplinary Studies major at Wheaton with a 3.98 cumulative GPA. A four-time All-American in men's track and field (indoor and outdoor), Van Grinsven recently finished fourth in the decathlon at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In March, he picked up All-American honors in the men's heptathlon with a sixth place finish at the 2019 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. He was honored as the 2019 CCIW Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2019 CCIW Outdoor Championships as he won his third-consecutive CCIW decathlon title, with a conference record 7,009 points. During the indoor track and field season, he set a new school record in the heptathlon and won the CCIW Championship in the multi-event competition. Wheaton College (Ill.) Michael McCraith picks up ABCA All-Region recognition
Wheaton College's Michael McCraith has earned Third Team All-Central Region from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The selection is the second time in his career that McCraith has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team, he was a First Team honoree in 2017. McCraith posted a team-best 2.88 ERA in 68-1/3 innings over 10 starts for the Thunder baseball team in 2019. He struck out a team-best 81 batters this season and held opponents to a .215 opponent batting average allowing only 10 extra-base hits all year. A three-time First Team All-CCIW honoree, McCraith was second in the the CCIW this year with a .211 opponents' batting average in league contests. His four victories against CCIW foes ranked fourth in the CCIW. He posted a 3.06 ERA in CCIW action this season, with 33 strikeouts in 35-1/3 innings of work. He posted two complete games in his five CCIW starts, including one shutout. McCraith is second all-time in program history in strikeouts with 247 in his career and he is second in career wins (19). In four seasons on the mound for the Thunder, McCraith appeared in 37 games with 32 starts and a 19-7 career record. His 214-1/3 innings pitched is ninth in program history. McCraith's nine victories in 2017 is the highest single-season total by a Wheaton pitcher in program history and his 83 strikeouts in 2018 is tied for eighth in team history. His six victories this year ranks ninth in the team record books and his 81 strikeouts this year is 10th in program history. Wheaton College (Ill.) Favor Ezewuzie named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
Wheaton junior Favor Ezewuzie has been named the Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Midwest Region "Track Athlete of the Year" by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This marks her second regional award from the organization after earning recognition as the Midwest Region "Track Athlete of the Year" during the 2019 indoor track & field season. Ezewuzie, the "Most Outstanding Track Athlete" at the 2019 CCIW outdoor Track & Field Championships, recently earned All-Region from the USTFCCCA in four events. She will represent Wheaton at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 4X100-meter relay this weekend in Geneva, Ohio. Wheaton College (Ill.) Michael McCraith named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Baseball Team
Michael McCraith of the Wheaton baseball team has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, for Division III. McCraith earned First Team Academic All-District recognition as a senior Political Science major at Wheaton with a 3.70 cumulative grade point average. He has a 2.88 ERA this season in 68 2/3 innings. The senior has allowed just 56 hits and struck out 18 batters, the 10th-highest single-season total in program history. McCraith's 247 career strikeouts are second on Wheaton's all-time list, he is second all-time in career wins (19) and eighth in ERA (2.94).

Wheaton College (Ill.) Kelly Thornton earns First-Team All-CCIW recognition and CCIW "Player of the Year"
Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton earned First Team All-CCIW recognition at utility. Additionally, Thornton was recognized as the CCIW's "Player of the Year". Thornton is just the fourth Wheaton Player to win the CCIW Player of the Year award since it started in 1989. Kelly Thornton's All-CCIW selection marks her fourth career First Team All-CCIW honor, making her the second Wheaton player to earn First Team All-CCIW recognition in all four seasons of her career. Thornton had a team-high .442 (23-for-52) batting average in 16 conference games this season ranking third in the league in batting average. She hit for a .654 slugging percentage in league play that ranked second in the conference this season and her .508 on-base percentage was third. She ranked first in the league in doubles (8) in CCIW play, was second in hits (23) and total bases (34). Overall for the year, Thornton posted a .442 (57-for-129) batting average in 39 games, with a .500 on-base percentage and .674 slugging percentage. She hit four home runs this year, with 18 doubles. She scored 31 runs and tallied 37 RBI this year. Thornton tied Wheaton's single-season record for total bases with 87 this season and her 59 hits ranks second in the record books. Her 18 doubles in 2019 ranks second in Wheaton's single-season record book and her 37 RBI this year ranks fifth.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Hannah Clark named Second-Team All-CCIW for softball
Wheaton softball senior Hannah Clark was a Second-Team All-CCIW honoree in the outfield. Clark had a strong senior season for the Thunder, earning Second Team All-CCIW recognition for the second time in her career. Clark posted a .367 (18-of-49) batting average in CCIW play this season, with a .404 on-base percentage. She scored 16 runs in conference play and was second in the conference play in stolen bases with 19. In Wheaton's 39 total games this year, Clark was second on the team with a .363 (41-of-113) batting average with five doubles. Clark swiped 23 bases, the fourth-highest single season total in program history. Her 34 runs scored this year ranked sixth in the program's single-season record books.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Ben Brittain named to Second Team All-CCIW for baseball
Senior Ben Brittain earned a Second Team All-CCIW selection in baseball. Brittain picked up Second Team All-CCIW recognition this season for his second career All-Conference honor. He was also a Second Team All-CCIW selection in 2017. Brittain played in all 24 CCIW games for the Thunder this year, with a .327 batting average (32-for-98). The senior infielder hit a team-best seven doubles in league play, with two triples. He drew 10 walks in conference action, with a .385 on-base percentage and stole five bases. Brittain scored a team-leading 24 runs in league contests with 16 RBI. Overall this year, Brittain posted a .331 (53-of-160) batting average. He hit 11 doubles, with three triples and had nine stolen bases in his senior campaign. He scored a team-best 32 runs this year with 24 RBI. Wheaton College (Ill.) Matthias Haggerty earns Second Team All-CCIW selection for baseball
Freshman Matthias Haggerty is a Second Team All-CCIW selection in the infield with a strong debut season for the Thunder. In 22 CCIW games year, Haggerty posted a .347 (26-of-75) batting average. He tied for the team lead in RBI during conference contests with 17. He scored 11 runs in league play with six doubles and one triple. Overall this season, Haggerty hit for a .322 (37-of-115) batting average. The rookie drove in 25 runs with 20 runs scored. He hit nine doubles, with one triple and stole six bases on the year.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Kelly Thornton named to the 2019 NFCA All-Region team for softball
Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Great Lakes Region First Team as a utility selection for her efforts this season at pitcher, second base and shortstop. Thornton is a three-time All-Region selection, earning First Team honors this season and in 2018 to go with Third Team recognition in 2017. hornton, the 2019 CCIW Player of the Year, is a four-time First Team All-CCIW honoree. Overall for the year, Thornton posted a .442 (57-for-129) batting average in 39 games, with a .500 on-base percentage and .674 slugging percentage. She hit four home runs this year, with 18 doubles. She scored 31 runs and tallied 37 RBI this year. Thornton tied Wheaton's single-season record for total bases with 87 this season and her 59 hits ranks second in the record books. Her 18 doubles in 2019 ranks second in Wheaton's single-season record book and her 37 RBI this year ranks fifth. Thornton graduates from Wheaton ranked in the top-five in 10 different offensive categories, including the all-time leader in hits (182) and total bases (299). Her 51 career doubles ranks second all-time in program history, she is third in career batting average (.408), third in home runs (18), third in RBI (116) and tied for third in runs scored (110).

Wheaton College (Ill.) Anderson Park selected as CCIW Men's Tennis Player of the Year
Thunder sophomore Anderson Park earned First Team All-CCIW recognition, and was named the 2019 CCIW Player of the Year for men's tennis. Park had an impressive sophomore season with the Thunder to earn First Team All-CCIW recognition and become the 17th player from Wheaton to earn the CCIW's Player of the Year award in men's tennis. Park was 20-1 at No. 1 singles for the Thunder this season, including 7-0 in CCIW matches. In two seasons with the Thunder, Park is 38-6 in his singles career, winning 86.3% of his his matches. Park, the 2018 CCIW Newcomer of the Year, teamed with Alex Winter at No. 2 doubles for a 13-9 record this year.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Josh Cheng named to Second-Team All-CCIW for men's tennis
Wheaton senior Josh Cheng earned Second Team All-CCIW recognition in men's tennis. Cheng competed at No. 2 singles and teamed up with Andrew Bristol at No. 3 doubles for the Thunder this season. He posted a 4-3 record in conference play at No. 2 singles for the Thunder this spring. Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. Wheaton College (Ill.) Sarah Magnuson named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Women's At-Large Team for women's tennis
Sara Magnuson of the Wheaton women's tennis team has been named to the 2019 Women's Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, for Division III. Magnuson earned First Team Academic All-District recognition as a senior Applied Mathematics and Economics double-major at Wheaton with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average. She compiled a 20-3 singles record in 2018-19, playing primarily at No. 2 singles and her career singles record is 82-10. In doubles play this year she was 16-10 and holds a 59-16 career doubles record. A two-time Academic All-CCIW performer, Magnuson is a four-time Academic All-CCIW selection for the Thunder. A team captain this season, she helped lead Wheaton to a 17-6 overall record and the program's third NCAA Division III Championship appearance in four years. Wheaton College (Ill.) Chris Szymczak named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Men's At-Large Team for men's tennis
Chris Szymczak of the Wheaton men's swim team has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Seven Men's At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, for Division III. Szymczak earned First Team Academic All-District recognition as a senior Economics major at Wheaton with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average. This winter he qualified for the 2019 Division III Swimming Championships in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 200-yard freestyle. An 11-time qualifier for the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships, Szymczak is a two-time Division III All-American in the 200-backstroke (2016 & 2018). An 11-time CCIW Champion, he is a CCIW record holder in the 100-yard backstroke (49.40) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:47.45).

Wheaton College (Ill.) Kelly Thornton named CCIW Softball Hitter of the Week
Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton has been named the CCIW Softball Hitter of the Week, as announced by the conference office. Thornton posted a .476 (10-for-21) batting average last week with seven runs, three doubles, one home run and seven RBI as the Thunder went 4-2 against CCIW competition last week. She combined to go 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep at North Park last Tuesday. She was 5-for-9 with three runs and one RBI in a doubleheader split against Carthage on Friday. Thornton hit her team-leading third home run of the season in a 6-3 win at Augustana on Saturday. Thornton has a .404 (42-for-104) batting average in 30 games this season. She leads the Thunder with 42 hits, a team-high 31 RBI, 12 doubles, is tied for the team lead with three home runs and also tied for the lead with 26 runs scored. She leads the CCIW in hits (42), RBI (31) and doubles (12) this season. Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. Wheaton College (Ill.) Emma Westwick named the CCIW Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Wheaton senior Emma Westwick has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office. Westwick earned a singles win and was victorious in doubles play as Wheaton earned a 9-0 victory against Kalamazoo last Saturday. Westwick defeaed Kalamazoo's Laura Hanselman 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday in their match at No. 1 singles. Westwick and doubles partner Bethany Hoogerheide defeated Kalamazoo's Elle Knight and Maya Srkalovic 8-7 (8-6) at the No. 3 doubles. Wheaton College (Ill.) Michael McCraith is named CCIW Pitcher of the Week
Wheaton senior Michael McCraith has been named the CCIW Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office. McCraith tossed a complete game shutout in Wheaton's 1-0 victory against Augustana last Friday. The senior allowed just two hits, with no walks and he struck out Augustana 10 batters to improve to 6-1 on the season. McCraith leads all CCIW pitchers this season in strikeouts (71), victories (6) and opponent batting average (.178). He is second among conference pitchers in ERA (1.61) and innings pitched (56 IP).
