Wheaton College (Ill.) Jess Bosse is named the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball
Wheaton senior Jess Bosse has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office. Bosse helped lead Wheaton to a 3-0 record at the Ripon College Quad as the Thunder won the tournament, posting its first 3-0 start to a season in more than 20 years. The senior tallied a team and match high 19 digs last Friday in a season-opening 3-0 victory at Ripon. In Saturday's 3-0 victory againast Marian, she again led all players with 21 digs and Bosse also recorded 14 service reception attempts without an error in the win. She capped off Wheaton's 3-0 weekend with 16 digs in a 3-0 victory against Finlandia.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Hannah Roeske named CCIW Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Wheaton sophomore Hannah Roeske was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the conference office. Roeske placed third out of 327 runners at the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wisconsin on Friday afternoon. She finished the 6K race with a time of 22:11.4 and was the top CCIW runner at the event.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Kelly Thornton named CCIW Player of the Week in volleyball
Wheaton senior Kelly Thornton has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Volleyball Setter/Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office. Thornton helped lead Wheaton to a 4-2 record last week. The senior had a versatile effort last week, averaging 6.15 assists per game over 20 sets. She also contributed 2.3 kills, 2.55 digs and 0.65 service aces per game for the week. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Marymount Invitational last weekend, averaging 6.57 assists per game, 2.64 digs per game and 2.21 KPG for the four-match tournament.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Marin Halvorsen becomes second Wheaton player in program history to win CCIW Championship in women's golf
Marin Halvorsen became just the second Wheaton player to claim an individual CCIW Championship. Halvorsen held off the field with a final round score of 77 to add four shots to her lead and finish with a six-shot lead over the field. Following a second round 87, Halvorsen took advantage of less windy conditions to post the lowest round in the field and the third-lowest round of the tournament, including her first round of 72. Halvorsen finished with a three-day score of 236 to finish 20 strokes over par and six strokes ahead of Rylie Loux of Illinois Wesleyan and Madi McCoy of Carthage, who tied for second at 242.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Simon Peterson named the CCIW Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Wheaton junior Simon Peterson was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Peterson earned the honor from the conference as the top CCIW men's cross country athlete at the Aurora Spartan Classic last Friday at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora. The junior placed 15th in the 8K race with a time of 26:20.5 as he helped lead the Thunder to a fifth-place finish in the 13-team meet.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Curtis McWilliams honored as the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week on the gridiron
Senior quarterback Curtis McWilliams was named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office. McWilliams accounted for three touchdowns, passing for two and rushing for one, in Wheaton's 52-30 victory at fifth-ranked North Central last Saturday night. McWilliams was 22-of-27 on passing attempts against the Cardinals as he completed 81.5% of his passes, the eighth-highest single-game completion percentage (PDF) in a Division III game this season. He threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Carter Roberts in the second quarter to increase Wheaton's lead to 24-9 and in the final minute of the first half he scored on a three-yard touchdown run to extend Wheaton's lead to 31-16. Late in the fourth quarter he connected with tight end Tyler Pace for a 16-yard touchdown pass to account for Wheaton's final touchdown. McWilliams has thrown for 1,117 yards this season with nine touchdown passes. He has completed 73 of his 110 passing attempts for a completion percentage of 66.4-percent.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Patrick O'Connell honored as the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week
Junior defensive lineman Patrick O'Connell was named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office O'Connell led a ferocious Wheaton defense that held Monmouth to just 54 yards of total offense last Saturday in the season opener. He registered a team-high 3.5 tackles for loss (-12 yards). O'Connell added two quarterback hurries and tallied one of Wheaton's two pass break-ups on the day. O'Connell's 3-1/2 tackles for loss last Saturday was the most by any CCIW player in the conference for the opening week of the season and tied for fourth in all of Division III for the opening weekend. Wheaton's 12 tackles for loss against Monmouth ranked fifth in all of Division III last Saturday.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Sarah Tomich takes CCIW Defensive Player of the Week honors in women's soccer
Thunder sophomore Sarah Tomich has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office. Tomich played a key role in Wheaton shutting out St. Thomas and Salisbury in the first two matches of the 2018 season last weekend. Tomich was a factor in holding opponents to just eight shots in two matches last weekend, including only four shots on goal. Wheaton shut out St. Thomas (Minn.) 2-0 in the season-opener last Friday as Tomich and the Thunder defense held the Tommies to just two shots in the shutout. Wheaton topped Salisbury University 3-0 on Saturday as Tomich keyed a Wheaton defense that held the Sea Gulls to just six shots, with only two shots on goal.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Jaxon Hulse picks up CCIW Defensive Player of the Week recognition in men's soccer
Thunder junior Jaxon Hulse has been named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office. Hulse played well in the back for Wheaton over its last three matches, helping the Thunder to a pair of shutout wins. Hulse and the Thunder defense shutout No. 18 Luther, 1-0 last Saturday in Decorah, Iowa. On Monday night, the Thunder returned home on Tuesday to shut out Aurora 3-0 as the Spartans scattered five shots in the first half and six in the second half to give the Wheaton defense its second-consecutive shutout. Hulse and the Wheaton defense has recorded four shutouts in six matches this season.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Colleen Smith picks up Second Team All-CCIW conference volleyball honors
Smith picked up Second Team All-CCIW honors in her debut season with the Thunder. The freshman led Wheaton with 306 kills in 30 matches this season. She posted an average of 2.94 kills per set, ranking eighth in the CCIW, and recorded a team-high .237 attack percentage. The versatile Smith also averaged 2.91 digs per set and had a .961 service reception percentage. Smith had 102 kills in Wheaton's eight conference matches and her 3.52 kills per set average ranked sixth in the league. She posted a .293 attack percentage in league play, ranking sixth in the conference. She led the team in service aces in conference play and was second on the team with 3.2 digs per set in league action.

Freshman defender Nicole Wright earned Second Team All-CCIW recognition for her strong debut season. Wright has one goal and one assist this year. She has played a key role for a Wheaton defense that has held opponents to just 12 goals in 20 matches this season as Wheaton has a 0.59 goals against average, with 10 shutouts.

Wheaton College (Ill.) wins individual medalist honors at the Elmhurst Fall Invitational
Marin Halvorsen followed up a top ten finish at last weekend's Kyle Campbell Invitational with an impressive round at Oak Brook Golf Club. The Thunder sophomore finished four shots clear of the field at the Elmhurst Fall Invitational to claim her second collegiate tournament victory. Halvorsen shot a six-over par score of 78.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Justin Hill earns Second Team All-CCIW recognition in men's soccer
Sophomore Justin Hill earns his first career All-CCIW recognition with a strong defensive effort for the Thunder. Hill appeared in 17 matches for Wheaton this season, including all eight conference contests. Hill was a key component of a Wheaton defense that recorded nine shutouts, including four against league opponents. Hill and the Thunder defense held opponents to a 1.02 goals against average; a mark that was only 0.86 against CCIW opponents.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Jess Bosse was named First Team All-CCIW volleyball honoree
Bosse earns First Team All-CCIW recognition at defensive specialist for her outstanding senior season. Bosse played in all 31 matches for the Thunder this year and posted a league-best 5.41 digs per set, playing in 107 sets. Bosse's 579 digs ranks 28th in NCAA Division III this year. In Wheaton's eight CCIW matches this fall, Bosse posted a league-best average of 5.52 digs per set. Her 160 digs in 29 conference matches led the league. In four seasons with the Thunder, Bosse registered 1,735 career digs in 112 matches. Her 4.47 digs per set average ranks seventh in program history

Wheaton College (Ill.) Corey Kennedy earned selection to D3football.com Team of the Week
Wheaton senior safety Corey Kennedy earned selection to this week's D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in a 79-0 victory against Elmhurst. Kennedy forced an Elmhurst fumble on the first offensive play of the game, recovered the fumble and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown to give Wheaton a 7-0 lead. The senior's touchdown occurred just 37 seconds into the game. Midway through the second quarter he intercepted an Elmhurst pass and returned it 62 yards, untouched, for a touchdown. His second touchdown gave Wheaton a 44-0 lead with 7:26 remaining in the first half. Kennedy was among eight different Wheaton players to score a touchdown in Wheaton's highest scoring game since 1959. Kennedy registered 33 total tackles this season, including 21 solo stops. He recorded three interceptions, with 177 return yards. The senior made nine pass deflections and recovered three fumbles. His three defensive touchdowns this year led the Wheaton defense. Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Thunder Athletics program has won five NCAA Division III Championships since 1984, and Wheaton student-athletes have won 31 Division III individual National Championships all-time. Wheaton College (Ill.) Sarah Tomich named CCIW Defensive Player of the Year
Wheaton sophomore Sarah Tomich was named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Year in women's soccer. Tomich earns the first CCIW Defensive Player of the Year award, in the first season that the conference has handed out an offensive and defensive award. The sophomore was honored as the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, most in the league. Tomich, a Second Team All-CCIW selection last year, is a First Team honoree this season. She has started every match for the Thunder this season with two goals to her credit. She played in all eight CCIW matches for the Thunder and both of her goals this year came in conference play.

She is the 21st individual from the Wheaton women's soccer program to earn All-America recognition. Tomich scored a pair of goals this season, including a game-winning goal. She led a Wheaton defense that allowed 17 goals in 24 matches this season for a 0.70 goals against average. She was an integral part of a Thunder defense that recorded 11 shutouts in the 2018 campaign. The Thunder defender was recently honored as the first CCIW Defensive Player of the Year award, in the first season that the conference has handed out a defensive player of the year award. She also picked up First Team All-CCIW honors in 2018.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Devin Kyler named CCIW Player of the Week in women's basketball
Senior forward Devin Kyler is this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week in women's basketball. Kyler averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for Wheaton in the opening week, helping lead the Thunder to a 2-0 record. Kyler shot 50% (10-of-20) from the field and 78.6% (11-of-14) at the free throw line. Wheaton defeated Macalester 76-62 in the opening round of the Beth Baker Classic and the Thunder won the tournament with an 81-72 victory in the championship game against Hanover College. In Wheaton's win against Macalester, Kyler led the Thunder with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting (57.1%) from the field with two three-pointers. She also added nine rebounds, three blocked shots, three assists and three steals in a well-rounded performance in the win against Macalester. In the win against Hanover, she scored 11 points with five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Wheaton College sponsors 21 varsity sports, and Thunder teams compete at the NCAA Division III level. A senior Economics major, Stevenson holds a 3.83 cumulative grade point average at Wheaton. A three-year starter at linebacker, Stevenson was recently named the CCIW's "Don Larson Defensive Player of the Year". Stevenson made a team-high 73 total tackles this fall, including 40 solo stops. The senior made 9.5 tackles for lost yardage (-29 yards), including two quarterback sacks (-13 yards).

Kennedy earned First Team Academic All-District recognition at defensive back. A senior Business/Economics major at Wheaton, he holds a 3.95 cumulative grade point average. Kennedy, a Second Team All-CCIW selection this season at safety, made 33 total tackles this season with 21 solo stops. The senior led Wheaton with three defensive touchdowns in the 2018 campaign. He tied for the team lead with three interceptions (-177 yards), recovered three fumbles and had six passes broken up.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Eric Stevenson named semifinalist for 2018 Gagliardi Trophy
Wheaton College senior Eric Stevenson has been named as one of 13 semifinalists for the 2018 Gagliardi Trophy, an award presented by Jostens and the J-Club of Saint John's University (Minn.) to the most outstanding football player in NCAA Division III. Stevenson is the second Wheaton player to be a semifinalist for the award, joining Matt Snebold who was a semifinalist in 2015. A three-year starter at linebacker, Stevenson was recently named the CCIW's "Don Larson Defensive Player of the Year". He was recently selected as a First Team All-CCIW selection and also picked up Second Team Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 honors. An Academic All-American as a junior, Stevenson was recently named as the only Division III finalist for the Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation (NFF). As a Campbell Trophy Finalist, he received a NFF Scholar-Athlete Award and an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. Stevenson made a team-high 74 total tackles this fall, including 41 solo stops. The senior registered 9.5 tackles for lost yardage (-29 yards), including two quarterback sacks (-13 yards). Wheaton's leading tackler in each of the past three seasons, Stevenson made 268 career tackles, including 150 solo tackles. The linebacker made 27 tackles for loss (-79 yards) in his career, with 5-1/2 sacks (-27 yards).

Wheaton College (Ill.) Tyler Sigler earns Second Team All-North Region honors from D3football.com
Senior Tyler Sigler earned Second Team All-North Region honors as a part of Wheaton's nationally ranked defense. Sigler, a Third Team All-Region honoree in 2016, picked up Second Team honors this year at cornerback. The senior finished third on the Thunder defense with 50 total tackles this season, tying for the team lead with 41 solo tackles. Sigler, a First Team All-CCIW selection in 2016 and 2018, broke up three passes this year with one interception and a fumble recovery.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Madison Peebles picks up Second Team All-Region recognition in women's soccer
Senior Madison Peebles earns her recognition for the 2018 season as a midfielder. Peebles' selection is her third career All-Region award, following a First Team selection in 2017 and a Second Team nod in 2016. Peebles was an All-American selection in 2017 and the 2017 CCIW Player of the Year. Peebles played in all 24 matches this year, scoring four goals with five assists. Three of her four goals for the season were game-winning goals.

Wheaton College (Ill.) Hasten Biddlecome earns Second Team All-CCIW honors for men's soccer
Hasten Biddlecome played in goal for 13 Thunder matches this season, with 1,112 minutes to his credit. The sophomore allowed just 10 goals with a 0.81 goals against average. He made 42 saves this season, with five shutouts to his credit. He played in seven CCIW matches for the Thunder, playing 598 minutes. He allowed three goals in conference play with a 0.45 goals against average. He made 20 saves in league play and was credited with all four of Wheaton's shutouts against CCIW foes.

Senior Midfielder Madison Peebles earns First Team All-CCIW recognition for the third time in her career and she is a four-time All-Conference performer, earned Second Team honors as a freshman in 2015. Peebles has played in all 20 matches for the Thunder this season, with four assists. She has scored four goals, including three game-winning goals. In eight CCIW matches this season, she has contributed two assists, with one goal.
